5 Prayer Points for May

May is a unique month because it’s not yet mid-year, but you have made progress up to this point.

You’ve started projects, seen answers to prayer and many exciting things are happening in your life.

There may be some ugly stuff you don’t want to deal with but, hey, life must go on.

Prayers in this month can take any turn depending on your unique experiences and circumstances in life.

Take stock of the good and bad things and bring them before the Lord. You have a lot to thank God for this far.

Below are 5 prayer points for May

1. Inspiration To Keep Going

Inspiration To Keep Going

A year always starts on a high note but as you approach mid-year, your morale to keep going may fade.

It’s at such times that you need the inspiration to keep taking one step at a time. God will give you the encouragement you need to keep going.

Pray for encouragement to keep pressing toward your goals for the year.

Don’t lose sight of them because of any boredom you are experiencing.

Approach the throne of grace with boldness that you may find the grace you need to help you move beyond any challenges (Hebrew 4:16).

God’s grace is sufficient for you at all times.

Pray for God to open your eyes and ears to see and hear his words of inspiration.

An inspiring word can come from someone’s T-shirt, a billboard or bumper sticker.

Pay attention to short inspiring messages God sends your way.

Ask God to inspire you through his word.

God gave us his word to encourage us when things are tough so we can have the strength to continue with the journey of life.

As you pray for God to speak to you through his word, open your Bible and read an inspiring passage, for example, a Psalm.

2. Take Stock Of What’s Working Or Not

Take Stock Of What’s Working Or Not

After living through five months of the year, you know what’s working and what isn’t.

Life doesn’t go in a straight line and you may find yourself taking detours. It’s important for you to guard against losing direction or veering off your path.

Whatever works needs to remain and whatever doesn’t needs to go.

Pray for the wisdom to know what to let go of in this season.

If a plan, method, or way is not working, don’t insist; do away with it.

God helped Gideon sift those who were to fight in his army and those who were to go home (Judges 7:4).

You can read the whole story in Judges 6-8.

Pray for God to remove anything or anyone that is acting as a hindrance to you obeying him and doing what he has called you to do.

If there are friendships whose purpose in your life is over, ask God to remove them.

Where certain things no longer serve a purpose in your life ask for the grace to leave them behind.

Ask God to show you what needs to remain in your life because it is a part of his plan.

3. Divine Intervention in Achieving Goals

christian goals

You can be doing very well in achieving your goals, then you make a mistake or someone messes you up. Instead of getting discouraged, ask God to intervene in the situation.

He has promised to deliver you from all your afflictions (Psalm 94:13). You’re not perfect, neither are others, and you need to understand that.

Pray for God to intervene in a situation where you’ve made a mistake and need his help to rectify.

Ask him for a remedy and a way forward. God is the one who redeems our mistakes and shortcomings and helps us get things right.

Ask for the patience and wisdom to know how to handle the mistakes of others. Where others need to leave your life, let them go graciously.

God can work in the hearts of those around you to make them have a change of heart.

If you need a miracle, ask God for one.

Miracles are for those times when you are dealing with an impossible situation.

What is impossible with man is possible with God.

Don’t limit God on the ways he can intervene in your situation.

If you need to adjust timelines or use a different strategy, do so.

4. Discerning The Plans Of The Enemy

Discerning The Plans Of The Enemy

There is an enemy out there who is always looking for a way to devour you (1 Peter 5:8). He will stop at nothing to see you and what you value destroyed.

The good news is that God has equipped us with his word to discern the plans of the enemy. By his Spirit, he reveals to us what those plans are.

Ask God to reveal to you anything the enemy is planning against you. Use your authority in Christ to destroy those plans.

God has already promised you the enemy’s plans will not succeed in your life. He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world.

Put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17) to guard yourself against the plans and schemes of the devil.

As a child of God, you have weapons from heaven to defeat the enemy. God never intended for you to use your strength.

Ask God to give you spiritual insight into different situations so you can tell which one is caused by the enemy.

Pray for God’s light to expose everything lurking in darkness regarding your life. You don’t have to remain in the dark.

5. Declare God’s Word Over Your Life

Declare God’s Word Over Your Life

Effective prayer includes declaring the word of God over your life. God’s word contains God’s will. God’s word is like a double-edged sword that defeats your enemy with finality.

Jesus turned to the word of God when the devil was harassing him in the wilderness.

Here are 5 Scriptures to declare over your life today.

  • No weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17)
  • You are a king and everything you decree will stand (Job 22:28)
  • Your mind will stay focused on the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5)
  • The work of your hands is blessed (Deuteronomy 28:12)
  • You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13)

Pray the word of God when you don’t know what to pray.

When God reveals to you something through the Scriptures, declare that word over your situation and see it change.

The word of God is powerful because it transforms your mind and changes your situations.

You can also declare God’s word over the life of your family and friends. You can pray it over your city, country and leaders.

God’s word is alive and it can penetrate every situation in your life.

Pray according to your needs in the month of May and don’t feel limited to the list above. Follow the leading of the Spirit as you pray because he will bring prayer items to mind.

Pray over each of your needs, challenges, relationships, projects, hopes, dreams, etc. God has asked us to bring to him all kinds of prayers and requests.

He can handle them all. He is the all knowing and ever powerful God.

Thank God for this far he has brought you and for his blessings in your life.

Don’t forget to thank him for the breakthroughs he has given you.
