A Prayer for Reconciliation

Father in Heaven, you are the author of all things good. You have given us numerous blessings, both seen and unseen.

And one of those blessings is the ability to enjoy the company of the people around us.

You have given us people to laugh with, cry with, and do life with. But in our sinful natures, God, we often take this good gift of yours and destroy it.

And right now I am standing in the aftermath.

Right now I’m feeling lost. I’m feeling hurt. And I know, Jesus, that you hurt with me. You know what it’s like to be betrayed by the ones you love.

Ephesians 4:32 Bible Verse

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

You know what it’s like to be let down by those closest to you. So I ask that you would be near to me during this time.

Comfort me and help me to know that you, and you alone, will never leave nor forsake me.

But God, I pray that this would not be the end of our relationship. Lord, I pray earnestly for reconciliation.

I pray that we would be able to forgive each other, just as You forgave us.

No matter how we have hurt each other, no matter how deep the cut, I pray that we would be able to mend. I pray that over time, our relationship would heal and become even stronger than before.

I know it won’t be easy, so Lord, give us the patience we need to endure this difficult process.

And Father, show me the areas where I fall short. Show me the spiritual blind spots that are preventing me from loving you and others like I should.

Help me not to place all the blame on someone else, but to take responsibility for my words and actions. Help me to act in a way that honors you.

If this relationship is unhealthy and displeasing to you, then give me the courage to walk away.

But if it is worth saving, then Lord, give us both the strength and the motivation to put in the necessary work.

And finally, Lord, I thank you I can have reconciliation with You through Jesus Christ.

My sin separated me from a Holy God, and there was nothing I could do to atone for it.

But in your great love and mercy, you sent your only Son to die on my behalf, so that I could be in right relationship with you.

May this beautiful truth always humble me and inspire me to extend that same grace toward others.

Through this situation, Lord, give me a tender heart. Help me to put aside all bitterness and malice, and instead be filled with compassion. Your Word says that love covers a multitude of sins.

So I ask that Your Holy Spirit would change the way I think, the way I speak, and the way I act toward others.

Help me to do whatever it takes to make things right again, in your perfect timing. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
