Bible Verses About Haircuts

A SPIRITUAL THOUGHT ON HAIRCUTS

As a Christian, you always want to live right, keeping to all the rules and guidelines that God has lovingly set for us in His Love Book, the Bible. However, we get to some confusing points in our Christian walk where we have no clear instructions on how to move forward.

One of these points is an instruction on what to do with our hair. What is the Bible’s stand concerning haircuts, and what are the guidelines for hair maintenance in the Bible?

The Old Testament clearly directs priests (Leviticus 21: 5, Ezekiel 44:20) and Nazarites (Numbers 6:2-4) about what to do with their hair, but does not totally stop Jews from cutting their hair. Some major references for those that had their hair cut in the Bible include 2 Samuel 14: 26, where Absalom cut his hair yearly, and Ezekiel 5:1, where God commanded Ezekiel to cut his hair.

1 Corinthians 11: 14-15 is a reference in the New Testament that says, “Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.”

In conclusion, the Holy Spirit deals differently with every Christian, just as is the case with God and the Jews, priests, and Nazarites. Therefore, each Christian must strive to hear the Holy Spirit for themselves in a clear and still voice and obey His direction concerning every facet of life.
