Bible Verses About Locust

Locusts are a collection of certain species of short-horned grasshoppers that are usually solitary, but under certain circumstances they become more abundant and change their behavior and habits, becoming gregarious.

Locusts are featured a couple of times throughout the entire Bible. One of the ten plagues of Egypt, the eighth one was that of locusts. Moses warned the Pharaoh that God will send so many locusts and they will cover each and every tree of the land and eat all that is there to be eaten and God did when Pharaoh refused to let Israel go (Exodus chapter 10). Locusts are destroyers.

In Joel 1:14…..’That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.’

Locusts were mentioned alongside other destroyers.

Interestingly, Locusts have been used as food from the earliest times. A common method of eating them was to pull off the legs and wings and roast them in an iron dish. Then they placed them inside of a bag and ate them like parched corn.

Sometimes the insects are ground and pounded, and then mixed with flour and water and made into cakes, or they are salted and then eaten; sometimes smoked; sometimes boiled or roasted; again, stewed, or fried in butter.

God promised in His Word to restore the years that the locusts have eaten. God’s plan for His Children is peace and prosperity. When He released locusts in the Scripture, He did it against the enemy and not against His own people. If there is any area of your life that has been eaten up by the enemy, God’s promise is- RESTORATION!
