We all struggle to pray from time to time. There are times in our lives when our prayer life doesn’t seem fruitful.
Those times when our brokenness and disappointment cause us to lack words to pray and prayer ends up feeling like a burden.
Well, that is not prayerlessness.
Prayerlessness is when someone quits praying altogether. It is when you stop depending on God and start depending on self or the world.
But here is the thing:
Prayerlessness starts in bits. Yes, most people who do not pray anymore stopped praying in bits.
They began by skipping a day or a week, and then that turned into a month, and then they stopped altogether.
Sad, right?
Unfortunately, every believer is susceptible to this vice, just like the disciples of Jesus in (Matthew 26:40).
That is why we need to fight against prayerlessness. See, the devil is very cunning.
He will not tell you to stop praying completely.
Instead, the enemy will tell you there’s nothing wrong with you not praying the whole day, week, and soon you will find yourself not praying at all.
A prayerless life is dangerous for Christians; here is why:
Causes You To Drift Away From God
What happens when you stop talking to a friend or relative for years?
You drift away from each other, right?
The same is true for your relationship with God.
Prayerlessness means that you do not need God in your life; you can do all things by yourself.
Prayer brings you close to God. It enables you to know the mysteries of God.
Our heavenly Father promises to draw near to us when we draw near to him. So, it is through prayer that Christians become intimate with God. (James 4:8)
Prayerlessness Will Cause You To Backslide
Backsliding doesn’t happen suddenly. It is a gradual process. One of the things that makes someone to end up backsliding is prayerlessness.
A prayerless person becomes preoccupied with the things of the world instead of God.
As time goes by, they become carnally minded, and this causes them to backslide.
When Solomon became King, he walked in the ways of the Lord. But his love for foreign women made him disobey God.
Eventually, Solomon stopped seeking God, and he started worshipping foreign gods. (1 Kings 11)
Stops The Kingdom Of God From Advancing
We are God’s managers on earth, and that means that we need to take care of the resources that he has given to us.
But for us to take good care of the resources that God has given us, we need guidance from him, and that is why prayer is essential.
Jesus was able to accomplish his purpose on earth in three years. How did he manage to do that?
Jesus prayed a lot.
Our Lord only did what his Father told him to do that is why he prayed a lot.
God doesn’t reveal everything to us at once. He does it in stages.
Prayerlessness will prevent you from doing great and mighty things that God has in store for you on earth because you will not be in tune with Him to know the steps he wants you to take.
In short:
Prayerlessness is a sin so it should not be taken lightly. Through prayer, we are able to get close to God and have an intimate relationship with him.
Prayerlessness will cause you to drift away from God.
If you are struggling with prayerlessness, you need to fight it because if you don’t, it will block you from advancing the kingdom of God, and eventually, you will backslide.
