Devotional: Prayer

prayer devotional

Relationships can be hard.

Why?

I think we don’t put a lot of effort into building relationships.

It’s easier to post a Snap or IG pic and let people know what’s going on right now, right this second. Social media has made it really easy to have one-way-all-about-me relationships.

Which aren’t relationships at all – it’s more of….hmmm… melationship.

It’s like we’re having relationships with ourselves and others are just watching.

We’re all guilty of this. It’s easy to have twenty besties and no real “I have your back” kind of friends.

We end up feeling let down and disappointed.

I don’t know about you, but I have felt that way. Often.

What do we need to do to build better relationships?

Spending regular time with one another and talking. Getting to know each other’s character and personality.

It’s the same way with God. I know at times I’ve had a melationship with God.

Not much more than a nod to heaven. Guess what? I end up feeling let down and disappointed.

Prayer is the way that we build a relationship with God.

It’s simply talking to God on a regular basis. The fantastic thing about talking to God – nothing is off limits.

You can share with Him everything that’s on your mind, in your heart (psst…He knows what’s in there anyway, so you’ll feel better if you just share it.)

Philippians 4:6-7 says,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus

Philippians 4:6-7

When we pray, we exchange our perspective for peace. Peace in our hearts and minds. I don’t know about you, but I could use some peace.
