How To Conquer Bitterness Like Christ

How To Conquer Bitterness Like Christ

You have been hurt so bad by your loved ones or friends, the evil they have done against you has left you bitter in your heart.

But as a good Christians, you know it is not right to harbor bitterness in your heart.

You want to get rid of all the pain in your heart and live free from anger and resentment. (Colossians 3:13)

You have tried to push everything aside and start over, but it is not working.

You have even gone ahead and reached out to the people who have hurt you, but they don’t seem to care.

They are not sorry about what they did to you.

You are determined to move on even if they are not sorry. You just don’t know-how.

Seriously how do you get rid of bitterness?

By imitating Jesus.

Why?

Jesus went through a lot of humiliation here on earth. He was called a glutton.

They tried to stone him, people hated him and eventually killed him, yet he had done them no wrong, all he did was his father’s will.

But nowhere do we see Jesus holding a grudge or harboring bitterness towards those people if anything he died for their sins on the cross.

So how does one overcome bitterness like Jesus?

Know Who You Serve

Jesus knew that he could not entrust himself to man; he depended wholly on God and did what his father had sent him to do. (John 2:24)

People will make you angry and frustrate your efforts given a chance, but know that even though you are serving them, the one that you are genuinely serving is God.

Don’t put your trust in men; they will disappoint you.

Endeavor to always work as unto God and not man.

Find Your Purpose

You will get tossed to and fro when you don’t know your purpose. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Finding your purpose and living accordingly will enable you to rise above the bad things that the enemy throws at you.

You will be too busy chasing your goal that you will not allow resentment and anger to grow in your heart.

Now, you don’t have to stop living your best life because you don’t know your purpose.

There are some common purposes that Christians have like being worshippers, great parents or children, serving others in different capacities, and so on.

As you ask God to reveal your primary purpose, fulfill the small purposes he has set for you.

Understand God’s Love

Well, if you take the time to understand God’s love for humanity, you will not allow bitterness to dwell in your heart. (John 3:16)

Imagine all the bad things we keep doing and how many times we have disappointed God, but he keeps forgiving us all our sins.

In fact, he gave his son so that we can be forgiven of all our past, present, and future sins.

Now if God gave up his son for you, can’t you give up the resentment in your heart and forgive the person who hurt you?

Jesus knew that his father loved him, and he focused on that instead of the bad things other people did to him.

It may not be easy but know that as you focus on how much God loves you and not on the wrong things people have done to you, you will be able to conquer bitterness.

Bitterness is a bad thing because it opens doors for the enemy to attack you physically, emotionally and financially.

It is a door to every evil work (James 3:16).

Get rid of it today by imitating Jesus, to avoid giving the devil power over you.
