“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.” – Lamentations 3:24

Lamentations 3:24

Spiritual Thought

The opening verses of Lamentations 3 tell us of the prophet’s woes, as he talks about the suffering and pains that come with the Lord’s judgment and punishment of sin.

However, he quickly remembers the Lord’s unfailing love and His ceaseless mercies. This thought overshadows all pains and depression that he suffered from having to face God’s wrath. He realizes that God is all that there is to life, as God is, in fact, the life-giver.

In the same breath that Jeremiah speaks about the wrath and anger of God, He talks about God’s love and his eternal inheritance of God as his portion. This brings hope and security to a man that is facing the brunt of God’s anger, knowing that God’s love is sure and His anger only lasts but for a short while.

For every believer, God is our portion and our exceedingly great reward.

Hence, it is wise to hope in Him and trust in the process with an understanding that even though He chastises us for a moment, He will never leave us nor forsake us. Therefore, it will not matter that there is a punishment for our sins but that we have God’s backing, and as our portion, He is eternally ours.

So, we will learn from the chastisement and become better, growing and glowing in the assurance of God’s love for us, which is never-failing and ever-sure.

Prayer

Dear God, I have been struggling with anxiety for some time now. I pray that this would be taken away from me and I can live without it. Please give me the fortitude to continue fighting the good fight. Help me to remember that You are my portion. I believe that you are my only hope and will bring me victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
