My Friend Is A Different Religion

Is it ok to have friends that are of other religions?

Daily, we cross paths of people that have different backgrounds and beliefs.

It is inevitable that we will meet someone who we become friends with that may not share the same beliefs about God that we do. In fact, some may not believe in God at all.

What do we do? Is it ok to be friends with these people?

Different Faiths & Religions

Some Christians struggle with how to react to finding out a friend believes in something else.

The first reaction is to unfriend them; however, Christ can use you to reach your friend and possibly lead them to Him.

What other religions are there?

  • Jewish
  • Muslim
  • Humanism
  • Buddhism
  • Hinduism
  • Agnostic
  • Atheist

By having friends of different faiths and religions, God is giving us numerable opportunities to witness and share His love with others.

Introducing them to Christ and sharing the gospel with them is important so don’t waste the chance to let Jesus work through you.

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15

Be Prepared For The Conversation

The discussion of our faith and beliefs will inevitably come up in conversation at some point in close friendships with those of other religions and belief systems.

Being prepared for such a conversation will enable you to share your faith with confidence.

Approaching a conversation should be done gently, with respect, and most of all with love.

Keep in mind that some religions do not follow the Bible. Quoting scripture may hold little value from their perspective.

Pray For Your Friends Of Other Religions

God is the only one that can bring change into your friend’s heart.

You can’t.

You can, however, pray for them and ask God to open their hearts and minds and break down any barriers in place that would prevent them from believing.

If your friend is having a difficult time with something, let them know you are praying for them because this is one way of witnessing to them.

By praying for them, you become the vessel that Christ will use to reach them.

You will be the one that shows them what Christ’s love is like and through your actions, lifestyle and faithful walk with God, they will see the evidence of God in you.

Christians exude a certain energy that is magnetic to others because the love of God within you is so powerful that it can be contagious to others.

Let Your Life Be Your Witness

Practice and live by the fruit of the spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23

Allow others to see the fruits of the spirit in your lifestyle, and before you realize it, they will be drawn to you. Allow the Almighty to work through you!

For you see, these friends of other beliefs may have been placed in your life so God can use YOU to reach them.
