Encouraging Words For Someone With A Broken Heart

It’s no news that every evil thing entered the world when mankind disobeyed God at the Garden of Eden –

  • dishonesty
  • deceit
  • disappointment
  • disloyalty
  • distrust
  • discomfort

The imperfections of human beings are bound to show up even when they may have good intentions.

While we cannot live without depending on and trusting some people for assistance and support, we must never lose consciousness of their humanity.

We cannot afford to stake all our hopes or put our entire faith in anyone, including ourselves.

Rather, we must trust completely in the Lord, our God.

All over the Psalms, David declares his confidence that those whose faith is placed solely in the Lord will never be put to shame.

I know how hurtful it is when someone you believed in, trusted and, most likely, sacrificed a lot for, turns around and stabs you in the back or fails to be there you when you need them the most.

Jesus Christ knows this feeling too.

His trusted friends were asleep when He needed them to watch and pray with Him.

He was just about to go through the most significant death mankind has ever seen.

Later, one sold Him out, one denied knowing Him at all, and the others were nowhere to be found. Hebrews 4:15 says

Hebrews 4:15 verse

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

He knows exactly how hurt feels because He felt it. And He knows just how to comfort and heal our broken hearts.

Rest in this knowledge.

Prayer For a Broken Heart (1)

Dear God,

I thank You for Your eternal and unwavering faithfulness. Your love for us is overwhelming, even in the midst of our failures and doubts.

When we rebelled against You, You made a way to reconcile us back to Yourself.

You are an amazing God!

Lord, You know every battle we face, every trouble and care that burdens our hearts. You know our expectations. You know our disappointments.

Lord, You alone truly know how your child feels right now.

I ask that You wrap them in Your comfort, reminding them that You will never leave them, just as You promised in Hebrews 13:5.

Hebrews 13:5 verse image

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Your Word says in Psalm 34:18 that You are close to the brokenhearted.

Lord, please make them aware and fully conscious of Your presence with them.

While they may feel abandoned by the world, remind them that they are never alone.

Remind them of Your promise in Romans 8: 35-37 that nothing can separate them from Your love.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.                                  Romans 8:35-37

Psalm 147:3 declares Your ability to make the brokenhearted whole again.

Lord, let them experience the healing power of Your compassion.

He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3

In John 16:33, You give us the assurance that Your power overrides every disappointment and trouble we will ever face.

John 163 :3 image

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

In Matthew 11:28, You invite us to come and take solace in You from the burdens of our hearts and lives. Help Your child accept this invitation every day.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Finally, in the midst of the ‘ifs’ and ‘whys,’ Lord, let them trust in Your perfect plan. Help them to stay focused on their eternal hope.

Even in this hard time, let them be a channel of Your love and hope to a broken world.

Help them to take their eyes off themselves, difficult as this is, and be able to minister to the needs of others, because only then will they be complete in their healing.

I pray in the precious Name of the High Priest of Our Hope, Jesus Christ.Amen.

Prayer For a Broken Heart (2)

Father God,

I ask you to bind up and mend my broken heart.

Lord, you said that in this world there will be trouble. But you have overcome the world.

Sometimes it can be hard to believe that, in the middle of all my suffering.

This life brings all kinds of pain and heartbreak and tragedy. It is easy to feel like the whole world is crashing down on me.

Yet you are so faithful; not for a moment will you forsake me.

God Is Faithful

And Jesus, I believe. But help my unbelief. Help me to see that you are making all things work together for my good.

Every part of my life – the good, the bad, and everything in between – is all part of a bigger, beautiful story you are piecing together.

So God, I do pray that you would take this suffering away.

But even if you don’t, you are still good. You are still God. Help me, instead, to suffer well. Let me bear every burden without grumbling or complaining.

Help me to serve you in the best way that I can during this storm.

Jesus, you are my hope and my anchor in every circumstance. I know that I am infinitely loved and treasured by you.

Even if things in this life don’t go my way, I have an eternity of joy waiting for me because of your sacrifice for me.

My heart rejoices when I think about the promise that I have in you.

It is in Christ’s name that I pray, Amen.

Are you brokenhearted or knows someone who is? Post your prayer requests and we will commit to pray for you.
