Father God, I thank you for giving humanity the great gift of love.
In the beginning, you declared that it is not good for man to be alone. And so, you have created us for companionship.
And in your perfect plan, you have given us the gift of marriage. You have given us such a beautiful and integral part of our culture, and included in that is the milestone of engagement.
What a blessing it is when a man and a woman enter into a committed relationship.
I am so happy for my friends, who have done so and have just taken that next step toward marriage.
Lord, I thank you that they have found each other. I thank you that despite the challenges that love can sometimes present, they have decided to move ahead in their relationship.
I ask that you would give them wisdom and patience with one another during this new chapter.
Your Word says that love covers a multitude of sins; so let these two continue to be forgiving and tenderhearted toward one another, no matter the circumstances.
God, I pray that you would continue to bless them richly and deeply. Give them an engagement season that they can look back on fondly; protect them from disaster and misfortune.
I pray that you would deliver them from temptation, as well.
Help them to maintain purity and to honor you, even as the exciting promise of marriage draws near.
Let their relationship be an example to all who see them, whether believers or non-believers.
I pray that you would prepare their hearts for marriage. Let this be a time of reflection and personal growth for both of them.
As they look forward to marriage, help them not to mourn the loss of their independence, but to celebrate the unity that is soon to come.
Help them to cultivate an attitude of selflessness and to deepen their love for each other during this time.
Father, I pray that as this couple enters a new season of planning, hoping, and dreaming, that you would keep them centered on you.
There are likely to be many unique challenges – finances to manage, logistics to work around, friends, and family to deal with.
But through it all, Lord, help them to see your bigger picture. Let your goodness be evident in their lives.
Help them to see beyond the smallest details of planning a wedding and to focus on the prospect of a beautiful life spent together.
Ultimately, God, I pray that these two would constantly point each other to you.
Let their love be genuine, reflective of your great sacrificial love towards us.
May they radiate so brightly with your joy and purpose that no trial can shake them. And let us, as their friends and family, support them and celebrate them in a way that glorifies you, the maker of all good things.
