I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Psalm 16:8

Psalm 16:8

The “right hand” represents someone’s ultimate strength and power. In David’s case, he had confidence in God’s hand of protection, shielding him from his enemies. Hence, his declaration of trust in the Lord’s ability to protect and defend him.

God has promised to protect us from things meant to harm us. His ever-loving arms provide us safety in times of trouble. Even when we go through life-threatening experiences, we ought to confidently set the Lord before us as David did.

He is our refuge from every trouble. A refuge is a safe place to run to amid chaos. Hence, we can totally trust God and put everything in His hands; He is powerful, reliable, and unchanging.

If you are a Christian with an intimate relationship with God, no worldly harm can come to you except the one God permits. So you can be confident in God’s protection. You should note, however, that this does not give you the license to act recklessly or foolishly. As Jesus said, don’t put the Lord your God to the test.

Even though God is always at our right hand, watching over us, and we have no fear of being moved or shaken, it does not mean we can step out of the hedge God has set around us and still be under His divine covering.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being an ever-present help in times of trouble for me. Like David, I have decided today to always set you before me. So, I ask that you help me prioritize and honor you in all my ways. Please teach me to always trust in your ability and help, protect and defend me.

As I continue my life journey, make me conscious of your ever-abiding presence. May I always feel the safety that your right hand provides me with.
Father, even though some may trust in horses and others in chariots, I affirm that my trust is in the name of the Lord. Hence, I will not be moved nor shaken.

I ask that you strengthen my heart; help me not to be afraid on the day of trouble. Keep me courageous even when the waters roar and are troubled. When the mountains shake all around me, I ask that you uphold me always with your righteous right hand and keep me from all harm.

I also request that you help me not to take your protection for granted. Help me not to test you by acting recklessly or foolishly. Instead, I ask for the wisdom to live and enjoy the security I have in you.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
