Psalm 20:4

May he grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your counsel. – Psalm 20:4

Spiritual Thought

This is a prayer for the goodness of God upon a man that knows his ways. It is a prayer that God answers the heart desires of his servant and fulfills the plans that he commits to God. However, it is important to know that in the kingdom of God, the only desires that are given consideration are those that tally with his.

Why is the Psalmist making this prayer then?

Because he has found that it is possible for a man to desire what God desires, which is the only way to get your heart’s desires.

The bible says that God answers us when we pray in accordance with his will.

What is his will? It is that his kingdom and his ways be exalted above every other thing on the earth as it is in heaven. We are given our heart’s desires not for our own gratification only, but by this blessing, we are able to work more effectively in exalting his kingdom.

Our desires are then his desires, and so our plans will be fulfilled because we have submitted to his will through the governance of his Spirit in us.

Heavenly Father, as my heart desires to do more for You, please let it be done in Your time and in your way. Give me the strength and patience to be content while waiting on You to work out Your plan for my life. I thank You that even when my plans fail, You are always there to get me on the right track. I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
