In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. – Psalm 4:8

Psalm 4:8

Spiritual Thoughts

Such confidence and faith are expressed by the Psalmist in this verse! A gust of power rushes in as you consider his godly resolve.

How can you be so sure of rest in a world where chaos is palpable, even in the evening air? What could give you the idea that you could enjoy a peaceful sleep in such scary times? Well, the Psalmist had an anchoring that went beyond whatever he could physically perceive.

“For you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” By this very statement, we understand that the Psalmist knew where security comes from. He understood that if God were with him, there’d be no need to worry night or day.

Very few believers can profess such security in God, and this is because many of us have strayed from our assurance of salvation that comes through the Lord.

Unfortunately, the hearts of many saints today are filled with much fear and uncertainty because they overthink about the times we live in. And these times are perilous, no doubt.

However, we ought to have a focused relationship with God that produces the faith to know that our Lord will make us dwell in safety no matter what may come.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I seek Your protection today, as I go forth in this day. I know You are the protector of the righteous. May my steps be directed by Your wisdom. As I walk through my day today, may I remain close to Your word.

Guide my actions as I go through this day.

I know that You are the great protector of those who call upon your name. So, I ask that You surround me with angels to protect me from danger. Also, please shield me from any evil that comes my way.

Thank You for Your presence in my life today, Father.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
