Psalm 80:19

“Turn us again, Yahweh God of Armies. Cause your face to shine, and we will be saved.” – Psalm 80:19

Psalm 80:19

Spiritual Thought

The Israelites were God’s chosen people that He had separated from all the earth’s population to set as an example of His glory. However, time and again, they fell into sin and idolatry that separated them from God and caused them to serve other gentile nations. This Psalm was a cry for mercy and forgiveness.

The Psalmist repented of his sins and the sins of the Israelite nation in humility and submission. He realized that there was no salvation outside of God, and if they had God by their sides, they would have all that they needed.

This should be the state of every believer’s mind; we should crave God and the favor of His countenance. Our hope of salvation and life should come from intimacy and favor with God.

The life and calling of a believer are as a part of God, such that He permeates our whole being, and we are nothing apart from Him. Hence, when we are not in sync with Him, we perish and fade away. Therefore, our deepest desire should revolve around living and panting after God.

A heart that truly pants after God is never far away from Him; even after sin, it longs to reunite with God. Hence, we should long daily to have God’s face shine on us and hold dear our salvation.

Prayer

Lord, let Your face shine over me. Let Your glory be upon me, that I will be saved from every attack the enemy plots against me, it is in You I trust! help me to always keep my eyes fixed on you and not on the things and circumstances that surround me.

Forgive me for the moments that I have lost sight of you Lord and fear and anxiety crept into my heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
