“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” – Psalm 91:1
The concept of the secret place reminds one of the intimacies in a home. The most secret place of the home is an individual’s bedroom, and only those that are close to the homeowner or immediate family members get access to that portion of the house.
There, the homeowner is most open and vulnerable, and within that room, he makes his most crucial decisions. A visitor or acquaintance stays in the living room, and when the guest attempts to go beyond, the homeowner records this as trespassing. Hence, only those who are in a consistent and intimate relationship with this homeowner have access to the privileges of the home.
Likewise, with growing intimacy with God, we come into the rest and comfort that He provides to us. It is always present and available, but we can never enjoy the full benefits of being under His care from a distance.
The only way to enjoy fullness in God is by sitting consistently at His feet and growing in knowledge. This psalm exposes us to the need for persistent and conscious dwelling in the secret place of the Most High.
It takes determination, patience, and humility to be consistent at sitting and dwelling in God’s presence. Some of our experiences may be unpleasant and difficult, but only when we dwell in His secret place can we learn the assurance of safety, which His Shadow casts on us.
Heavenly Father, please watch over me in all ways. I trust You to guide and protect me from harm, danger, and all other threats. Keep me protected from everything that could hurt me. Help me to keep my eyes on You as I go through each day. Thank You for always being my strength, my shield, and my eternal protection. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
In the name of Jesus, I am delivered out of every trouble that troubles me. God is honoring me and changing my story at the speed of light. No more will I be afraid, because I know that when I call upon Him, I am delivered!
