3 Things That Cause Us to Drift Spiritually

Life is great, or so it seems.

You are growing in every other area, but the same cannot be said about your spiritual life.

You have drifted spiritually.

Things may be great on the outside, but your spiritual life is not so great, and you don’t feel great on the inside.

If we are, to be honest, drifting away from God makes us feel empty and lost on the inside.

While we desire to always be on fire for God, at times, we get caught up with the things that end up dulling our faith in God. (Romans 1:21)

But what are those things that cause us to drift away from God?

Discouragement

Here is the thing when you become a Christian; you become the enemy’s target. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy you and so he will do anything to cause discouragement in your life. (John 10:10)

When we focus on the enemy instead of God, we end up being so discouraged and slowly by slowly.

Discouragement causes us to look for comfort in other things instead of God.

Failing to Glorify God

There are times we stop glorifying God and turn to the world. We start to worship the same things that worldly people glorify.

Why?

Maybe because the world has us convinced or we lack knowledge in a particular area.

The pleasures of this world at times are so real than the promises of God.

So much so that at times, we find ourselves drifting away from God, and we start chasing after these pleasures.

Glorify God in everything that you do, and you will continue growing in faith.

Remember the things of this world are just temporary. They may be fine, but it is only for a while.

Habitual Sin

Aren’t you just sick and tired of this one type of sin that you keep struggling with?

There are times is seems like you have conquered it, but the victory is often short-lived. It is like you are living in cycles.

You keep struggling with this same sin year after year.

You want things to change. You are tired and just want God to take it away so that you can serve him faithfully.

Well, you are not alone.

We struggle with some things that seem to take us backwards when we thought that we were making progress.

It is easy to get discouraged, and you may even choose to quit because of the guilt, shame, and condemnation that you carry.

But know that there is no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)

No matter how far you have drifted, repent, and turn back to God. Your heavenly Father knows your struggle and is ready to help.

But you need to tell him that you are tired of drifting away from Him.

Ask him to reveal to you the thing that makes you drift from him and how to overcome it.

Discouragement will come; there will be moments you will be tempted to focus on other things instead of glorifying God. But always hold on the promises of God.

Put God first and always feed your Spirit with the word of God.

Temptations will come but know that God is there to help you.
