if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14
This verse is a deeper revelation on the topic of repentance. It is amazing that God says “my people”.
So, first, they are not unbelievers, but the people of God. It then means that we can be “believers” and be in need of repentance.
There are four steps to true repentance according to this verse.
This is the first step, that they that want to reconcile with God must come humbly admitting their weak and helpless state.
We are humans, and God is far superior to what we can think and know. We cannot argue with his methods, because he is the Creator of all things and He knows all things.
Praying is the act of speaking with God. You speak with him asking for mercy and forgiveness.
God is king, and sometimes he delays his appearance. We must seek him patiently, in humility and prayer while we await his mighty appearance.
A Turning Around
It is not enough to engage the above steps, but the final step is the most important even. We cannot continue to sin and expect grace to abound. If we are truly sorry, we must make a stern decision not to go back to the offence that hurts God.
We must “put the flesh under”, as Paul says, and “put on Christ” intentionally.
Thank you for the call on my life, Father. I'm grateful to be alive, because you are the one who created me. I promise my life to your service. I need your forgiveness for my mistakes and shortcomings. Help me to turn from that which doesn't please you. Allow me to be a blessing in all things, by your grace. Amen
