Verse of the Day Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Spiritual Thought

Do you know that God measures our obedience by His word?

We can claim to obey God just because we are doing certain things in our lives. But God uses His word as a measuring stick to determine whether what we are doing in our lives is right or wrong.  That is why we are encouraged to practice God’s word and meditate on it day and night. It is in doing so that we can walk on the right path.

We may study the word of God and then forget about it immediately.  But the word of God is described as a two-edged sword.  It is able to reveal deeper things that we may be hiding from the rest of the world or may not even know we are doing. It is also able to bring to the surface things we did not know about God and ourselves.

When we spend time in the word, we uncover things in our hearts that may not be right before God.  It is also through the word that we are able to know whether our intentions towards God are good or bad.  The word of God reveals to us our true identity in Christ. We may claim to serve God, but His word will reveal whether what we are doing is for God’s glory or our own glory. The double-edged sword is used to show us how the word of God is effective. It cuts through our spirit and soul and separates our good and evil thoughts.

Prayer

Thank you for allowing me to discover who you are, Lord. I thank you because through your Word you reveal to us what your plans are for our lives. Lord, as I read your Word, I need wisdom and guidance.

Your Word says “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5.

It also days that you will guide me according to John 16:13 However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.

I need your help not to rely on my own knowledge but rather to trust you for your wisdom Lord. Thank you for your Word.

Help me to continuously learn it and share it in the Name of Jesus I pray.
