The fact that the believers need a detailed lesson on the nature and character of the Almighty God is sorely apparent. Of course, the world out there who do not believe in Jesus Christ cannot know the nature of God in depth. But we who believe can. Unfortunately, however, most of us lack essential insight into God’s character, which is quite unfortunate.
Our scripture text presents one point in God’s behavior that is crucial to understand: God is not a man. So that brings us to the question – what is man like?
Well, for one, man is quite unstable and consequently untrustworthy. Therefore, when we are faced with an unfavorable situation, our default mode is to save ourselves by any means, leading us into all kinds of vices, the first of which is usually lying.
When we decide about something and find out that our decision disadvantages us even slightly, we are quick to rethink and change our minds. This is the nature of man. And we can’t help it.
On the contrary, God is stable, trustworthy, sticks with what he says to the end, and never lies. Therefore, if we say we believe God, we must trust everything he says absolutely. God will do exactly what he says and will never change his word.
Prayer
Oh God, I hold You by Your word that does not fail. You have said that you will heal me and therefore I wait patiently for Your word to come true. I know that You will not lie and what You can do is what You have said. I await Your salvation!
